Overview
The elearning module was part of a pilot approach to collating and presenting existing MLA research outcomes, practical ‘how to’ guides, publications and learning materials into a single user interface. It provided users with a single digital access point to explore a wide range of resources, pitched at various depths, learning preferences and temperament types, to solve commonly-identified soil health challenges. The existing elearning module was cumbersome and hard to navigate, and left users unsure of how to assess the wealth of information it contained.
Challenge
The brief was to look at the existing designs and create a more visually engaging, clean and easy to navigate solution that would appeal to a user base who were not completely comfortable with digital environments.
Solution
Firstly, l tried to put myself in the shoes of the user, to figure out what a frictionless experience would look like. I created a user journey which highlighted the pain points that existed in the current design.
Firstly, I suggested cutting quite a bit of content from the landing screen to simplify the information and make it clear how the user could continue to the topics. From there l created some onboarding screens to show the user how to easily navigate through the module. The users needed to know that the icons represented additional information so l added animation in order to achieve this. When the icons appeared on the screen, they pulse slightly to grab the users attention. When you hoover over the icons, they increase in size to give the user instant feedback and show that they are active.
